Riverside is the county seat of Riverside County, California. It is located beside the Santa Ana River, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Its 2008 estimated population was just over 310,000. Riverside's proximity to Los Angeles and San Diego, about an hour's drive, as well as access to the mountains or beaches of the region, attracts many people.
Riverside is served by the Alvord Unified School District and the Riverside Unified School District. Colleges and universities include the University of California, Riverside, California Baptist University, La Sierra University, Riverside Community College, and Kaplan College.
